A Message from Mark
Upholding Kansas values with sensible solutions that are best for our district and our state is my focus as your representative to the Kansas Legislature. Guided by the principles of hard work and fiscal responsibility, I continue to be a voice for:
- Addressing escalating health-care costs, including support for a Medicaid expansion plan that includes checks and balances to ensure funding is used wisely and equitably. Expansion will help ensure that our local hospitals can keep providing crucial care to you and your neighbors.
- Stabilizing education funding so students emerge from classrooms prepared to succeed in today’s fast-changing job market. I was part of a coalition that worked to pass the school-funding formula that was declared constitutional by the Kansas Supreme Court and ended decades of lawsuits.
- Expanding broadband internet into underserved areas. The pandemic clarified that broadband is a crucial connection for education, business and personal use. I serve as vice-chair of the State Broadband Expansion Taskforce, which succeeded in adding broadband funding into the 10-year highway bill.
- Fostering a competitive economy that provides businesses the stability they need to make long-term investments in our workforce. To that end, I have engaged in informative conversations with experts about how a statewide energy plan can benefit businesses and individuals.
The pandemic has taken a huge toll on our state, often with devastating results for businesses, families, non-profit organizations and more. Emerging stronger — with a fair and balanced tax structure, and with a limited and transparent government — will require sensible solutions and the courage to make tough choices. But I am convinced that opportunities lie ahead, and I am ready to continue working for you — and with you — to advance commonsense solutions.
